A Closer Look At The Helpful Travel Apps Available For The Impressive Apple iPhone 4S
The Apple iPhone range has long been renowned for its versatility thanks to downloadable apps from the AppStore, and the new iPhone 4S is no exception. One of the many categories in the AppStore is Travel, and in this article I will look at a couple of the free travel apps available for the iPhone 4S.
Free Translator
As the name suggests, Free Translator is a handy app which can be used to translate and words you type into the phone, into a language of your choice of which there are several to choose from. The interface is simple, as is operating the app. You simply type the word or phrase you want to translate into the interface, or take advantage of Siri, the iPhone 4S' speech recognition software. Once you have done this, you simply select the language that you want to translate to. There are many supported languages, with common European languages including French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Portuguese etc, as well as some eastern European languages like Russian, Polish, Bulgarian and Serbian. If you are heading for Asia, you will be pleased to know that languages like Chinese (simplified and traditional), Vietnamese and Japanese are also supported. Once you have translated you phrase, the translated text will be displayed on the interface. As an added bonus, some of the more widely spoken languages even have an audio playback feature where a recorded voice will speak the translated text. This is ideal if you are asking an everyday question like directions, as you can play it to a local and they will be asked the question in their native tongue. There are many translation apps in the AppStore, but Free Translator gets my vote for its functionality and as an added bonus it is free of charge.
Currency (Free)
This is an app which you use to convert currency form your home currency to that of your current location. Like the Free Translator, this is well worth a download if you are headed abroad for a holiday or business trip. To use it, simply select you home currency, and a calculator like interface will appear, and you can enter an amount. You can then convert it to the currency of your choice, and the conversion will be displayed on the screen. You can also do this in reverse, so that you enter the local currency and convert it to your native money, so you can get an idea of how much you are spending. This is very handy in some Asian countries, where you will see many zeros on a price tag for an everyday item. There are over 100 supported currencies, from all parts of the world, and the exchange rates are regularly updated.
Currency (Free) and Free Translator are just a couple of the thousands of travel apps available on the iPhone 4S. If you own an iPhone 4S, be sure to download these before your next holiday or business trip, as they are likely to prove very handy. The Phone 4S makes these easy to use with its simple touch screen operation and internet access which provides updates for currency conversions.
The iPhone 4S is available now on several UK networks, with some offering the handset for free on selected tariffs.
